When you hear that flossing is no longer necessary, I want you to cover your ears and run the other way! Despite recent taboo, dentists still recommend that flossing twice a day is necessary for removing interproximal plaque buildup.
According to the American Dental Association, “More than 500 bacterial species can be found in plaque; some are good and some are bad for your mouth. Together with food debris, water and other components, the plaque buildup around the teeth and on the gum line will contribute to disease in teeth and gums (Federal Government, ADA Emphasize Importance of Flossing and Interdental Cleaners, 2016).”
